Project Profile: RBC Transport Dynamics

Riggins Construction & Management, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of the design-build RBC Transport Dynamics project right in the heart of Orange County, California.

The goal for this project was to create a cohesive facility on this two-building, two-shift manufacturing campus. The caveat is that the work had to be performed while maintaining their production levels at 100%.

The building unification combined the manufacturing and production area, test labs, and chemical storage with a new, engaging office space and high-end training facility. Two existing buildings were connected by a new building addition. A new steel-framed, metal building for chemical storage and bead-blasting was also added on site.

The second phase of this project was twofold: create fluid access and incorporate additional security features. Monument and site signage was added as well as the creation of a focal point from the street. The new metal-clad entry with its aluminum sun shade louvers does this beautifully.

Fluid access around the building for deliveries, shipments, employees, and guests on the project site required the transformation of the once-vacant dirt lot north of both buildings.

The new storm water retention system allows the water to be filtered before it enters the main catch basin which leads to the ocean, our greatest resource. This new system along with pervious paving, bio-swale drainage systems, site landscaping and irrigation were among the featured improvements to the site. Underneath the glamor, now unseen, is the correction of grades and drainage issues that had previously plagued the site during the wet months. Security fencing with operable gates are the icing on the cake.

Over six hundred new plants, shrubs, and trees were installed along with 4,000 square feet of sod. Decorative rock and LED site pole lighting highlight the landscaping against the clean, drought-tolerant, and aesthetically-pleasing site.

We coordinated and professionally designed the new corporate offices, restrooms, and conference rooms to create a clean, modern look. High-quality materials, finishes, and specialty lighting incorporate the client’s signature color, making a statement both inside and out.

The remodeled office space includes a large, high-tech conference and training facility with custom sound panels and limitless furniture layout. This layout freedom allows the room to be broken into more intimate training rooms through the use of the new operable wall system. The training facility houses a direct-access breakroom with pass-through serving windows and twenty-five feet of solid-surface countertops making catering and hospitality a breeze.

Numerous upgrades were made to the manufacturing areas of the facility that included new remotely-operated overhead doors, air compressor piping, air receiver tank, gas lines, a three-inch diameter water line, eight new split-system heat pumps, and custom-colored epoxy floors in the test labs to make the production side of the company both efficient and appealing for their employees and visitor tours.

The 77,000 square foot finished floor gives the interior versatility, understated elegance, and ease of production. The improvements didn’t stop with aesthetics. Epoxy injection repairs made to the existing building’s concrete panels, prior to application of elastomeric paint, ensured the building was healthy and structurally-sound for years to come.

To see a project of this magnitude through to completion is one of our proudest moments. This publicly-traded company had a specific timeframe that didn’t allow for downtime. Working in an occupied, functioning space is no small challenge. It’s a testament that with teamwork and open communication anything can be accomplished.
