Riggins Construction & Management, Inc. is delighted to announce the completion of the design-build interior improvements for Earth Island Natural Foods, the manufacturing company founded to produce Follow Your Heart’s ® line of products.
We constructed a 1,763 square foot mezzanine with front and back stairway exits. New parking stalls, required by the additional square footage, were added and the path of travel was brought up to current code. The mezzanine area’s heating and cooling needs are serviced by new Trane 6-ton and 4-ton gas-electric, conventional HVAC units.
The mezzanine’s second floor created 1,800 square feet of office space: two new restrooms, two offices with windows toward the bottling-production area, a janitor’s closet, and a break room and conference room divided by a manually-operated acoustical panel operable wall with a 3’ x 7’ pass-through door.
The generous lunch room has upgraded cabinets, a stainless steel sink, and circuitry to house three microwaves, a toaster oven, and an industrial coffee maker; it’s a perfect place to enjoy lunch and big enough for company gatherings.
Below the mezzanine we created a 1,800 square foot food deli preparation area. This area, the kitchen area, and the dishwashing area all received the Dex-O-Tex Epoxy flooring system with Posi-Tred top coat for a non-skid finish. Specialty trench drains were installed in these flooring areas and industry-specific sinks and faucets were also included in the design of the processing and packaging rooms.
The magnitude of this project required coordination between the City of Los Angeles, the Department of Water and Power, and the Los Angeles County Health Department to obtain permits as well as schedule inspections and finals.
While the mezzanine was being constructed, we simultaneously upgraded the power supply for this manufacturing facility to 1200A 480V 3-phase power for a future production line.
We are especially proud that there was a minimal loss of production time while the entire facility was on temporary power because of our coordination with Earth Island’s internal shipping and receiving personnel.
We wish to acknowledge the outstanding professionalism, and results, that were provided through you and your designated representatives. The highest standards that you have established, and your very efficient and supportive administrative staff, clearly combined to achieve the level of success that was realized for our project. The subcontractors … were also very professional and efficient. We would also like to acknowledge what a pleasure it was to work closely with your site superintendent, Mr. Mike Schnabel. His commitment to the quality of work, and adherence to project “target dates” established, are a testament to you and your company as a whole.Ron M. Behar, Plant Manager
