Bamboo flooring at 19 Corporate Park when Fisker Auto was the tenant.

Bamboo Flooring

When you think of bamboo what’s the first image to come to mind?

Giant Pandas? Great hedges for landscaping? Well, those are primary associations, but what about for flooring?

We’ve installed bamboo flooring several times and most recently for Fisker Automotive‘s lobby.

It’s simply beautiful.

One of our twitter followers iFloor is a great source for information about when bamboo floors can be installed and even how bamboo is grown.

Seismic Retrofitting

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge - October 17, 1989

San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge – October 17, 1989

Growing up in Central California, I have experienced my fair share of earthquakes, but from a distance.  Forever etched in my memory is the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake of October 17, 1989. Most of you down here in Southern California probably remember it most by the images of the Bay Bridge collapsing on itself.

Here in Southern California I hear of the Whittier quake in the ’80s and the Northridge quake in the ’90s.  On Easter of this year, I got a wake up call of the 7.2-magnitude type.  Granted, I was okay, but it brought back memories of 1989.  On June 14 we got another reminder:  5.7.  I thought to myself, am I prepared? The answer is no.

Not in the form of fear-mongering, but as a reminder, I thought I should take this opportunity to mention that among our variety of project types, Riggins Construction & Management also performs seismic retrofitting for your building. Continue reading

Fitch Warehouse for Landco, LLC

Fitch Warehouse - Before and After

Riggins Construction & Management, Inc. was contracted by Landco, LLC to restore these warehouse facilities after a long-term tenant’s lease expired.

A set of warehouse restrooms, including two showers, and a janitor’s slop sink served the industrial tenant for well over a decade, but needed restoration.

A new janitor’s sink and fiberglass reinforced paneling was installed in the janitor’s closet including code-required earthquake strapping on the water heater.

Tiles were replaced to match existing in the shower and sink areas. Sinks received new chrome faucets and drain strainer covers as did the showers.   We also relocated and installed new shower mixing valves to meet current ADA code in the two showers.

Repainted walls and a recoated epoxy floor finish made these areas shine.

We are always pleased to not only meet the client’s budget and time schedule, but to provide a finished product ready for a new tenant.

A Tenant Improvement with Leaseable Space: PolyTak

Poly-Tak Before and After

Riggins Construction & Management, Inc. is proud to announce the completion of our design-build tenant improvement and exterior renovation project for Poly-Tak Protection Systems, Inc., a  national supplier of temporary adhesive carpet and tile masks.

Details:

All existing interior improvements were demolished to make way for the following:

1301 Santa Fe: Poly-Tak

The Poly-Tak space, with independent handicap-accessible entrances and exits, features full-height, finished walls between the 6,034 square feet of office and 20,306 square feet of warehouse area, including  a 2,870 square foot storage mezzanine.  Executive offices were built with sidelights to increase the natural lighting, creating a pleasant work environment. An executive restroom, personal storage closet, and adjacent sitting room all fall off the large executive office which also had a new 6′ x 7′ storefront window sawcut into the exterior concrete wall.

Two multi-fixture restrooms and one unisex warehouse restroom were also added, including a large break room with ample upper and lower cabinetry. A computer room, constructed below the mezzanine, features static dissipative tiles and 24-hour air conditioning to maintain the temperature of the room.

“Throughout the project you kept Poly-Tak informed about the building process, stages of completion, code issues, and cost budgeting. You met our expected timeline and the quality of the craftsmanship was extremely good.” ~ Douglas Cwiertnia, President, Poly-Tak Protection Systems, Inc.

1371 Santa Fe:  Leasable Space

A full-height demise wall sections off the building, nearly down the middle, to create the easterly tenant lease space.  It consists of 22,033 square feet of warehouse and 2,533 square feet of new offices; including a large conference room, three offices, a computer/telephone closet, two single-use office restrooms, and one unisex warehouse restroom.  It even features a large break room with ample upper and lower cabinetry.
